How to Install the UserWay Widget Using Google Tag Manager

Install the UserWay Accessibility Widget using Google Tag Manager with a Custom HTML tag, All Pages trigger, and GTM Preview mode validation.

Use this guide to install the UserWay Accessibility Widget through Google Tag Manager (GTM). This method allows you to deploy and manage the widget using your existing GTM container without making direct changes to your website's code.

Before You Begin

You will need:

⚠️ Important: Google Tag Manager requires the Advanced Embed Code version of the UserWay widget. The inline (basic/short) embed code is not supported.

Installation

  1. Sign in to your UserWay Dashboard at https://manage.userway.org/.

  2. Open Embed Code, then copy the Advanced Embed Code for your widget.

  3. Sign in to Google Tag Manager and open the container for the website where you want to install the UserWay widget.

  4. Click Tags, then click New.

  5. Enter UserWay as the tag name and Click Tag Configuration, then choose Custom HTML.

  6. Paste the UserWay Advanced Embed Code into the HTML field.

  7. Click Triggering, then choose All Pages, and Click Save.

  8. Click Submit, Optionally enter a version name and description and Click Publish.

ℹ️ Note: If you have any ad blockers installed in your browser, temporarily disable them while testing the widget. Some ad blockers can block the loading of gtm.js, which may prevent Google Tag Manager from injecting the UserWay widget code onto the page.

Expected Result

The UserWay Accessibility Widget loads on all pages covered by the selected Google Tag Manager container and trigger.
