What Is the Difference Between the Basic and Advanced UserWay Widget Scripts?

Learn the difference between the Basic and Advanced UserWay widget scripts and when to use the Advanced Script to override default widget settings in code.

UserWay offers two widget installation scripts: Basic and Advanced. Use the Basic Script for most websites and manage your widget settings from the UserWay Dashboard.

Use the Advanced Script if you need to customize widget settings in code, such as showing the widget in a different position on different pages of the same domain.

Basic Script

Advanced Script

Best for

Most websites and standard installations

Websites that need page-specific widget settings

Customization

Uses the settings configured in the UserWay Dashboard. The same settings apply across your website.

Lets you customize settings with script attributes. Settings can differ between pages of the same domain.

Technical effort

Configure and change settings from the UserWay Dashboard. No code changes needed.

Update the script code to make or change customizations.

⚠️ Important: When you uncomment an attribute in the Advanced Script, the code controls that setting, and you can't change the same setting from the UserWay Dashboard. For example, if you set the widget position in the code, changing the position in the Dashboard won't take effect. To manage that setting from the Dashboard again, comment out or remove the attribute line in your script.
