Remediations: Color Contrast

By default, the Pro version of the UserWay widget does not automatically change a website’s color contrast. This is to avoid unexpected changes to your site’s design. If you choose to enable it, the widget will detect color contrast issues and automatically fix them according to WCAG requirements.

(i) The automatic color contrast feature is only available with the Pro widget.

How to turn automatic color contrast on or off:

  1. Open your website where the widget is installed.

  2. Click the “Manage” button and log in to your account.

    Widget menu, Manage button
  3. Go to the “Remediations” section.

  4. Open the “Color Contrast” category:

  5. Use the option “Automatically fix contrast violations” to enable or disable it.
When enabled, the widget applies changes only after the page finishes loading, since all remediations are applied to the DOM after the site is fully rendered.

How to manually adjust color contrast for a specific element:

  1. Open your website and click the “Manage” button to access the widget settings.

    Widget menu, Manage button
  2. Go to the “Remediations” section.

  3. Open the “Color Contrast” category.

  4. Click “Accept” to apply the suggested color contrast fix for the selected element.

  5. Click “Edit” if you prefer to choose a custom color. The interface will show whether the selected color meets WCAG contrast requirements (for example: “Pass AAA” or “Fail AA”).

  6. Click the “T” icon to highlight all affected elements on the page.

Some elements may not highlight visually due to the website’s structure. This is expected, as the editor reads the element information directly from the page’s DOM.

FAQ:

  1. Can I undo all the fixes applied?
Yes. You can remove all applied fixes by using the “Undo all fixes” option.

  2. Can I undo only one specific fix for one element?
No. At this time, the widget does not support undoing or reviewing a specific change applied to an individual element.

  3. How can I review or update elements I previously marked as “Accepted”?
Currently, the interface does not offer a way to review or edit previously accepted color contrast changes.
