Customizing Live Site Translations with the UserWay Pro Widget

At UserWay, we're constantly enhancing our existing functionalities to serve your needs better. One of our latest improvements is the ability to customize translations for the elements on your website using our Live Site Translation Add-On. Whether you need to bypass translation for specific elements or want to modify the translated text to suit your preferences, we’ve got you covered.

Understanding Your Needs

We want to ensure you have all the tools necessary to achieve your goals. To that end, let’s clarify what you’re looking to accomplish:

  • Bypass Translation for Certain Elements or Text: Prevent specific elements or text on your site from being translated into any language.

  • Customize Translated Text: Modify the translated text of certain elements or text to match your own wording.

Depending on what you need, there are different paths you can take:

  • Want to bypass translation? There are 2 options for excluding an element from Live Site Translation.

    • Option 1:

      • Exclude specific elements from automatic translation to preserve essential content accuracy, such as people's surnames and company names.

        Attribute: data-uw-ignore-translate="true"

        Example usage:

        <p data-uw-ignore-translate="true">This paragraph will not be translated.</p>
        <span data-uw-ignore-translate="true">This span will not be translated.</span>
    • Option 2:

  • Want to customize translations? Follow the guide below.

Customizing Translations

If you’re interested in customizing the translated text on your site, follow these simple steps:

Step 1. Identify the Words Needing a New Translation

First, identify specific words or phrases on your site that require a custom translation.

Step 2. Complete the Translation Spreadsheet

Next, download and complete our Excel spreadsheet template with your desired translations. Enter the original text and/or element with the custom translations you want to apply.

Sample completed spreadsheet:

Sample completed spreadsheet:

Translation to override: the original text that needs to be changed.

Correction: the replacement text that overrides the automated translation.

Language: 2-letter language code or add a * for the override to be applied to all languages.

Selector1 (optional): optional element selector.

Selector2 (optional): additional optional element selector.

3. Submit the Spreadsheet

Once you’ve completed the spreadsheet with your desired translations, please send the completed spreadsheet to our support team via email, at desk@support.userway.org including the site(s) where these changes should be applied.

Turnaround Time

Our team typically takes one to two days between validation, processing, and implementing the new translations, although the exact time may vary depending on file size.
