How to Add an Accessibility Statement to Your Website and Widget Footer

Generate an accessibility statement in the UserWay Dashboard, publish it on your website, and add a link to it in the UserWay widget footer.

An accessibility statement informs visitors about your website’s current accessibility status and the steps your organization is taking to improve accessibility. It may also explain how visitors can report accessibility barriers or request assistance.

How Does the UserWay Accessibility Statement Generator Work?

UserWay provides an Accessibility Statement Generator through the UserWay Dashboard. The generator creates the content for your statement based on the information you provide and the UserWay products you use.

⚠️ Important: UserWay helps you create the content for your accessibility statement, but we do not host or publish the statement for you. You’ll need to create a page on your own website and add the generated content to that page.

For example, you can create a page with a URL similar to:

After publishing the statement, you can add a link to that page in the footer of your Accessibility Widget. You can also customize the link text displayed in the Widget.

How to Generate Your Accessibility Statement

  1. Sign in to your UserWay Dashboard at https://manage.userway.org/.

  2. Select My Sites, then choose the website you want to manage.

  3. Open the Accessibility Statement tab in the website settings and Select Customize.

  4. Complete the form using information specific to the website and organization for which you are creating the statement.

  5. Select the UserWay products currently used on the website. For example, select the Accessibility Widget if that is the only UserWay product installed, click Generate Statement.

  6. Download or copy the HTML version the generated statement:

  7. Create an accessibility statement page on your website, paste the generated content into the page, and publish it.

  8. After publishing the page, open its public URL and confirm that the complete statement is visible.
